Land O'Lakes Quilt Guild: Our Story

Land O’Lakes Quilt Guild was founded in July 1985 to bring together those interested in all manner of hand crafts; but in particular – quilting. The three charter members were; Susan Amon, Marion Kenney, and Karen Wykrent. At the guild’s founding, members came together and worked on hand quilting while learning from others.

Guild membership pulls from the local Lewisville, Flower Mound, Corinth, and Denton communities have traveled from as far away as Gainesville and McKinney. In 2016 the guild founded a scholarship for LISD students interested in pursuing textile arts in college. In 2018 the first quilt sale was held with roaring success. Held each October, the quilt sale provides funds for scholarships, as well as community service batting, backing fabrics, and for guest speakers.

I enjoy the opportunity to learn from others whether it be speakers or other guild members, seeing others works teaches me new things that I can incorporate in my projects.

Being a member allows me to socialize with like minded people who enjoy the same hobby. Show & Tell is a highlight, seeing other quilters’ fabric and pattern choices, and hearing the stories behind the making of the quilt.
